this band... and what's up with ALL the trumpets down on the floor of the venue? Bet that was difficult to enjoy in the audience.

Trumpet soloist isn't bad, but the band is really struggling. Soloist's lip trills are especially nice -- just like I prefer them. However, the overall "antics" leave much to be desired.

About a "6.5" on a scale of 1 - 10. JP

I ran across this release from a trumpeter named Frank Brodahl which features the MF arrangements of You Got It and Just Friends.
There's a few short clips at the site below. His sound in the upper register is not what I would call full but he hits the notes. Give a listen and let me know what you think...

I was wondering if anyone happened to watch the special last night on TCM about the great lyricists Johnny Mercer, what an iconic figure he was. I had no idea that he was the founder of Capital Records and he was actually a very good singer as well. What can you say about the songs he wrote lyrics to, wow I had no idea he collaborated with so many great composers and was actually related to a general who crossed the Potomac river with George Washington during the revolutionary war.

I remember at some time in the past there was a discussion on the board here about whether it was during Birdland or Hey Jude that MF did the "early in the mornin" thing... After reading through the Carnival thread tonight, I was inspired to listen to some live MF recordings, and he does in fact blurt it out in BOTH tunes during the Montreal Jazz Fest recordings from approximately 1983 or so. Thought it was interesting, enjoyed the listening thoroughlly.

Increase in bootlegging on the forum

In recent weeks/months, I've seen an increase in the blatant uploading and sharing of MF bootlegs. I know many of us are passionate about MF and enjoy sharing the occassional recording, but I'm asking us all to be, at the very least, a little more discreet about it. It's one thing to give a copy to a friend and another entirely to offer it to hundreds of people.

I don't want to open the entire "is bootlegging harmful?" can of worms (we will never reach a...
