I inherited an old cassette tape from a friend of mine featuring Stan Getz. Chet Baker plays on the tune "Shine" and the tune shows Chet at his best. He shreds the changes and really shows his bebop chops. If you can find it, it's worth a listen.

JL I've been getting a lot of enjoyment and added benefits by doing the #57 warm up over the past week, I can play up to about a high G# now without a reset so I'm making progress, ty very much for posting that exercise on the TH. My question is on the last warm up exercise the last measure goes from a high D chromatically up to a high g, could I keep extending that, lets say D# to G# and upwards or would that be to much abuse on the chops?

So, not so much of a secret -- at least not now. But it works.

I'm not one of those guys that keeps his silver trumpet clean -- quite the contrary, actually. My beloved King Silver Flair had gotten so bad that it was embarrassing. Both my band mates and my wife was complaining about it!

So, last night I while my wife and I were watching a movie I decided to clean the Flair. But I'm, by nature, lazy. So I wanted a short-cut.

Thanksgiving Parade Bill Chase Tribute

A friend of mine called me and said that he saw a Bill Chase tribute in the Macy's NY Thanksgiving parade. I just did a search online and found this, it was the Towson University Tiger Marching Band, http://www.thetowerlight.com/band-caps-macy-s-parade-1.2099097. He said that it was incredible. I watched "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" last week, and my favorite part was listening to Tom Harrell's flugelhorn improv over the Snoopy/Woodstock Thanksgiving dinner scene. I love Tom's flugel playing from the 70s. He sounds great on "A Time For Love" with Woody Herman, and his "Aura" album is quite good. I have most of his albums with Horace Silver, but I forget what those sound like. Anyone have anything else to recommend from Tom in the 70s?...
