As for...
#1. We will never know who won the election in Florida in 2000. A reexamination of the ballots by a conglomeration of news organizations (@2001-2002) was inconclusive, but even CNN admitted that by their examination Bush won Florida by a squeak. Did he lose the majority of popular votes? Absolutely...but that is not how the Constitution dictates the election of a president.
2. The administration of Bill Clinton bears as much, if not more, of the responsibility for September 11, 2001...but the real fault lies with a group of insane thugs who felt they hadd the right to kill thousands of innocent people. Some are too busy blaming the US government that they forget who the real culprits were (and are).
3.I really believe that Bush genuinely trusted the intelligence and information given to him that proved to be so wrong. What would have happened if the intelligence was right and Bush ignored it? The same people would be damning him. Don't forget...almost every major player in world politics, from the UN to other nations, to our own Congressmen (yes, even John Kerry and that phoney Hillary Clinton)believed the intelligence. Hypocrites that they are, they now deny it. Nobody had the forethought to think that Saddam Hussein was playing a masterful bluff.
4. We will endure hostility from other nations...always have. Would you rather be loved or safe? I'd rather have safe. Believe me, I work at one of the 9/11 crash sites...I never want it to happen again.
5. The accusations in Ohio were indeed made...even John Kerry's people admitted they had nothing to go to court on.
6. The administration has failed to be blunt and honest with the American people about what's happening in Iraq...but the news media refuses to tell you the amazing things that have happened, too. I wish I could get you to talk to my nephew, John, who is there right now. The stories are amazing. Ha actually reenlisted because he is so proud of his work there. I spend sleepless nights worrying about him.
7. So far, one Federal court has held that Bush's interpretation of the NSA wiretapping process is legal...the larger challenges have yet to be resolved. Lincoln faced the same charges (except the telephone, of course). Would you have impeached Lincoln?
8. Yes, Dick Armitage did reveal (he says accidntally, who knows) Mrs. Wilson's activities...but it's also pretty well known that many, many people knew she worked for CIA before the whole incident blew up.
9. I've never bought the whole goodwill thing. I've always seen it as political...right after 9/11 it was politically right to side with the US. Goodwill and politics aren't the same thing. Again, I'd rather my country be safe than popular.
10. Sure, trade deficit is high. What do we manufacture in this country? This has been a problem over fifty years in the making. NAFTA proved to me as disastrous as many believed in the early 1990s. We need to rebuild a manufacturing base in this country...it's going to take a long time. In the age of Wal Mart, we want things fast and cheap. I'm guilty of this too, but everybody who shops at places like Wal Mart contribute to the trade deficit. Ford and Chrysler are in trouble because they have failed to listen to the American consumer...who are buying better, cheaper cars from overseas. I wish it weren't so. I hated my last Ford so bad I ended up buying a Honda...love it.
11. Humans have been affecting the environment as long as we've been here. Ever see a picture of Pittsburgh circa 1880? This nation for some reason refuses to move forward environmentally aside from a little recycling. It's not up to the government unless the people have some type of willingness.
12. I've been grateful that since the first Bush tax cut, I've had a good bit of money extra in my check...my tax rate has dropped, helping me pay for a car, a house, and other things a bit easier. A few years ago, we in this state elected a liberal governor...first thing he did was jack taxes up, and it hurt. I consider the Bush tax cut a success. Few will acknowledge that in many ways, our present economy is even better than the so-called wonderful Clinton economy. I just wish all could benefit from it like I have.
13.Our present political climate will ensure that every presidency from now on will have endless scandals. I'll admit, Whitewater was nonsensical, and so is this Plame scandal...not to mention this bogus US Attorney scandal. The party out of power will do everything possible to damage the party in power. The complete moral and ethical failure of the Clintons made me leave the Democratic Party to become more independent...and I know many who have left the Republican fold over the last Congress. Don't forget...the Democrats really didn't win last November,,the Republicans lost miserably and deserved to do so. Actually, there's no difference whatsoever between Democrat and republican anymore. Voters need to start voting their minds and consciences...not along party lines. That's the only way we'll fix government.
14. There is a gap between rich and poor...but government cannot fix that...nor, really, should it. I think we need to get back to Herbert Hoover-style sense of self-reliance. It worked for me. To be successful we simply cannot rely on government...we have to make our own way in the world.
15. This is going to sound rough...but where does the constitution show the government has an obligation to provide health care for all? The medical system, becuase of the insurance system, is a disaster, true. Again, some time our country will have to corect itself, and we will have to stop expecting other people to pay for something. We wreck a car, and we expect somebody to pay for it. We have a medical problem, and we expect somebody to pay for it. A house burns down, and we expect somebody to pay for it. My grandfather refused to carry any type of insurance...he felt he was responsible for himself. The concept of insurance has really damaged this country.
Government-run health insurance...what does that mean? Walter Reed-type care for all. Isn't that a lovely thought?
Yes, George W. Bush hasn't been the greatest of US Presidents, but he certainly isn't the monster he's made out to be. The amazing thing about our country is that although Bush is called a tyrant and a monarch, he will peacefully (and, probably, happily) leave office in less than two years. Sadly, however, none of the clowns running right now seem to have the promise of anything better.
