Hi Transcriberarranger,

Bob's role in adapting South 21st for big band was essentially taking my score and adding parts to fit a conventional big band. At the time I wrote the piece, Boss was traveling with two bones, 3 or 4 trumpets, 3 saxes, piano (and synth) bass, and drums. So Bob essentially took that arrangement and beefed it up a bit by doubling certain orchestrations. Far be it from me to critique a legend in the biz, but I never did like Bob's adaptation. The "romantic bridge" to the tune was heavily dependant on Ron Pedley's synth pads to support Maynard on that screaming melody line. Bob just put chord symbols for the piano, thus tossing whoever is going to try to play that MF melody "under the bus". While I appreciate the fact that Mr Lowden took the time to adapt it to full big band and it therefore got published (my first published work), I would certainly approach the project differently these days. Oh well...
