I have a Getzen bass trumpet, a 1973 model designed by Rich Matteson, and it's a great horn.
I also have a Martin Committee valve trombone that I bought from JohnsonLong that's a great horn.
It's harder to find a good valve trombone than it is to find a good bass trumpet. Valve bones are notorious for having intonation problems. When you find one that plays in tune with a good sound all over the horn and isn't stuffy, you'd better hang on to that sucker! They're sorta rare.
Here's a clip of me playing bass trumpet.
I'd rather play my bass trumpet on a gig than a flugelhorn anyday.
