It wasn't an attack on you but take it how you wish. My point is that being a good "ear" player doesn't mean you will most likely be a bad sight reader. And those who have bad ears, in my experience, are also bad sight readers.

Just like with pretty much anything, the way to improve on something is to DO it. Sight reading CAN be taught and learned. It's a skill like anything else. Practice Practice Practice.

Side note: I've had some students who thought they were bad sight readers but upon experimentation, they sight read music GREAT when it was within they ability. A student trying to read a passage that has notes too quick or too high for them to play will mess it up not because they are reading badly but because they CAN'T play the passage. If someone is having to struggle to play a note, they can't free their mind to go onto the next beat and "pre" read that, a must for good sight reading.

Having a pornographic minds helps as well.
