Here's a technique they made us do way back when at Berklee. We always had to conduct while doing our solfeggio studies. When you are conducting and singing out rhythms it makes something click in your brain. You start to mentally visualize where the notes lie with the beats. It improved my sight reading skills by 1000%. To this day if I look at a piece of music I start conducting with my right hand while I sing out the rhythms. Give this a try. Stick with it and you will be rewarded like you won't believe.

Just my $.02
