The year before I went to Reinhardt I went through the the entire SA book.
I will admit that it was VERY time consuming. Many people will tell you that they "used to practice 6 or 7 hours a day". When I was 14 years old I really did!
At my very first Reinhardt lesson Reinhardt asked me to rapid single tongue a two octave scale from low C to high C. No sooner did I take the mp off my chops when Doc asked me "so how long have you been a pedal tone addict".
I haven't played a pedal tone since that first lesson with Reinhardt in March of 1979.
I will say this about the Gordon book though........It had me playing some pretty good double Bb's at the age of 14.
