B-T-W -- in the picture of Mr. Stripling posted above he is playing a rather well-used lacquered trumpet. Not the case last evening -- looked like he was playing a very new either lacquered or Gold Plated trumpet last night. Perhaps a new Yamaha, I think. Perhaps Eric's new horn? GORGEOUS sound.
ALSO -- he utilized circular breathing in almost every tune at one time or another. One tune he held a top space G easily for 16 measures or more and used circular breathing constantly, ending on a huge high C. But, often in other solos he would be circular breathing during long lines. I've never seen CB used so often, effectively and effortlessly. It isn't schtick with Stripling -- just a technique he uses often and seemingly, non-consciously...
