I'm glad Byron is starting to get his due. He is easily the best trumpet player almost nobody knows about. Amazing sound, technique, phrasing, and style, he can swing, solo, play legit - whatever. He is the closest thing to Doc that there is, although I don't know about the comment that implies Doc didn't do things easily -- IMO Doc is the greatest that has ever played the instrument.
Certainly there are players who do specific things better than Byron, but he may be the very best out there for the total package.
If you have a chance to see him you will not be disappointed. But yes he does sing, although he does it well and with love. Anyone who loves Louis will dig it.
