Hey Eric B.

I agree. I have never been a true Chicago fan, my ears and tastes always gravitated to Tower, I do however have much respect for the band their accomplishments and the musicians.

When I hear Pankow and the way he used the slide to shape things, I know Pankow is the Greg Adams and or Fred Wesley of Chicago and the man who shaped that sound. But, we are musicians and trumpet players though and we tend to understand and look at that in any band because that is where we are coming from.
The general/non musician fan I saw there seemed to have a different taste.

The place was packed and the fans yes they hear the horns see the horn players, but really want to sing along to the songs they grew up with, and sing them with the vocalist on the album. If you replaced Lamb and that other singer with curly hair from the 80's (sorry Chicago fans I don't remember his name) with another lead singer, however good that said singer would be, I think their would be fans complaining and asking for their money back for sure. There sure were die hard tide in the wool Chicago fans there!

The types that followed the band since they started out, have every album and tour t-shirt! They want to haer the vocal and the singer sing the songs they danced to and fell in love to, and got married to, and the horn players, in their mind (not ours) are nice but not something they focus on.

I really went to see and hear Thornburg, Nick was a real nice surprise! The guy's got chops and a real great musician all around. I sure learned a bit and got a bolt of energy from his participation with the band.

P.S. Ibird2 Yes I did think the horns were in fact a little low in the mix that night I saw them as well. I think they have their own sound company that travels with them, I guess that they have guitar rock guy's on the board!image Kinda consoling to know it doesn't just happen to me, it also happens to grammy award winning artists!
