Nick Lane's a real nice guy. I got to do a session with him once in the 80's. 2 tpts and 1 bone overdubbing some stuff. I asked him if he'd give me a lesson in arranging and he said he would. When I asked him how much he charged, he just said to bring over a bottle of red wine which I did and which we consumed during the lesson. He had his band back then (discussed in another thread - Charley Davis and Joe Davis were in the tpt section) and he pulled out some charts and explained what he did and why, etc. I'm not surprised by all the success he's had. He makes it seem easy, whether it's writing or playing.
