BTW on the same video, Doc's sound at 1:03 as he starts low is what I regard as his only common sound flaw. You hear things in the first phrase or two when he's down low. Kind of like there's a bit of a necessary compromise in his chops setup--he's set so perfectly for the top of the staff and on up that it's not quite open and pure down low, and he has to pivot a lot to open up enough. Then as the melody climbs he comes into his own and plays with a passion and fire and intensity unmatched by anybody, and then the high A is like a bonus, unnecessary but nice, almost like he's saying, "Maynard, I can do a bit of that too when I want to, but I can melt you into a puddle before I even leave the staff so I don't really need to."
