"Does anyone know why Neil Armstrong has become such a recluse over the years. I don't think he has done any interview about the lunar landing n years."

Neil Armstrong isn't a recluse.

He just doesn't want to be in the media spotlight. He wants to lead a more-or-less normal life.

Far from being a recluse, he's taught classes at a university in Ohio. Maybe still does. I don't have the details about that.

Knowing that, I made a point to be at his arrival to the EAA convention a few years ago, with the intention of at least being able to shake hands and say hi. He was very gracious in acknowledging the people who were there to greet him, but he didn't stop to shake hands or talk with folks. But he did say hi to me as he walked by. That 5 seconds of my life was excellent!!

Regarding "One small step for a man"... that's not true. He said "One small step for Man". Listen to the audio.

Personally, I'm sure that he meant to say "a man", but, given the somewhat-stressful-and-without-the-benefit-of-a-teleprompter moment, he said what only the best of us could say under those circumstances.

Happy Anniversary, Dr. Armstrong!!
