Actually, I think $70 is in the ball-park for a "flushout" or "chem-clean" on a trumpet (especially silver). A lot of shops are going to the ultrasonic cleaning, and those shops often will charge even a little more. I still use a decalcification solution in my shop, as the ultrasonic equipment is expensive and has a steep learning curve. However, UC is more environmentally friendly. Some techs that use it don't understand the need for neutralizartion after a UC cleaning, and after awhile the valves (and rotors on French horns) will start to slow down as the residual chemicals start acting up and reacting with expelled body fluids. I've had a few horns come into my shop for "re-cleaning" shortly after they were UC'd at other shops, so I'm not sold 100% yet. OSHA may have something to say about that soon, however.

BTW, whenever you take your horn in for whatever servicing, please do me and the other techs a favor by using the term "waterkey corks" instead of "spit valve" corks. Thank you for your support.
