Totally agree about the Valachi Papers.....killer tune and great playing by everyone.

I agree that the Theme from Summer of '42 from M.F. Horn Two is very nice. Maynard's ballad work is both appreciated by fans and wildly under-appreciated by critics. Another fine ballad performance came on his very next album, M.F. Horn 3, an otherwise often overlooked LP. The Love Theme from 'The Valachi Papers' is quite nice, though obviously not quite as recognizable, and also displays Maynard's mastery of the entire range of the horn.

Hey Jeff ... how are you? That is a wonderful arrangement! The first, and only, time I heard it played live was right after the recording of MF Horn 4&5. I saw the band in Bridgeport, CT. It was the "Live At Jimmy's" band but they were still playing things from MF Horn 3. There are recordings of the "4 & 5" band tour. Getting a hold of the recordings is another matter.
