I'm a latecomer to this conversation, but I thought I'd mention that I'm putting together a "walking office," basically a fully functional workspace built on and around a treadmill. I'm a web designer who works at home, and the idea is to walk several hours per day while working, burning anywhere from 500 to 1000 calories in the process. There's a lot of information online if you're curious...a few commercial products exist, but mainly people improvise and create their own setup.

I went from 205 to 155 a few years ago, almost entirely through watching my calories, which was and is a fine lifestyle choice for me. The Lean Cuisines get pretty tiresome after a while, but so be it. This all took place post-divorce, while I was getting set up in my bachelor life, but once I started dating again I found it's pretty easy to end up in restaurants two/three times a week, and that's all it took to gain back nearly 20 pounds in about as many months. So I'm going to start hoofing it. I'm looking forward to the benefits in alertness, too...this "iron fanny" routine is not conducive to top-shelf creativity.

Will keep you posted if you're interested. Meantime, good luck everybody!
