Do I think the chumps who squeak out or blair double high C's and above on lame-ass youtube videos are overrated?  YES!  But then again, maybe I'm just bitter because I've never played a double anything in my life (not).  It is absolutely true that no matter what register one plays in on any instrument, it comes down to whether or not one is making music (and by "music" I mean anything worth listening to).

The fact of the matter is, in Wayne Bergeron's case, is that we as trumpet nerds know him primarily for his outstanding abilities as a lead trumpet player.  By yesterday's standards, lead trumpet playing (in most cases) meant playing the highest notes in the trumpet section.  Today, being a good lead trumpet player means having to be able to do so much more.  Wayne exemplifies what today's lead trumpet playing is all about, namely versatility.  The man plays from the bottom to the top of the horn with great efficiency and an even sound.  Plus, he can play changes to boot!  In short, he is the trumpet player's trumpet player.
