Hi guys,

Sometimes I'll deviate from the original version of someone else's charts for my own musical reasons. Other times it may be the way my chops feel so I'll adjust the part to get through the performance respectfully.  As you are well aware, the trumpet is a pain in the ass! My goal every time I perform is to play as musically as possible. Making the high notes is not as important to me as how I can musically get to them. That will vary from performance to performance depending on how I feel.

Maynard and Doc are my two favorite soaring ballad players. I think it's great to be influenced by their playing, but not to copy their every note or nuance.
It's up to the rest of us to take there influence and find our own sound and style.

Doing so many guest artist concerts over the last few years has given me even more respect for what Maynard did every night on the road. A couple of nights in a row of doing this kind of playing kicks my ass.

Thanks for all the kind words! It's truly appreciated.
