My dad used to say that fire wood warms you twice. Once when you burn it and when you cut it.

I love it.

My wife refers to us as 'the frontier family' this time of year. I drive around near my home looking for dead trees in what is obviously older people's yards. I offer to remove the tree if I can keep most of the wood -- no other charge. I give them a few bundles of ready firewood if they want it and go away happily having done a good deed, saved a boatload of cash, and stocked up my woodpile.

I like to start winter with 6 to 8 cords on hand.
