I think you may have it there...as you said, it was possibly just not a comfortable environment for him to be on the Tonight Show...we tend to forget that these stars are only human, with all the same hopes, aspirations, and fears as anyone one of us...

Also, the main reason to appear on these shows is to gain exposure and enhance one's career...does anybody really think an appearance on the Tonight Show would have made much of a difference career-wise for MF?

Who is the guy on this board that remembers seeing Maynard on the Tonight Show back in 1961-1962?...this was talked about on here a couple years back...the board member said Maynard played Ole...if you are out there, please tell us what you remember about that night...was Jack Parr still the host or did Carson take over by that time?
