I'm going way out on a limb here.  I think the Zankster is right.  "Comfort zone."   And, to add to that general comment:  Event, prep, time constraints, market gain, etc.

Some people can go on stage and do their thing within the 3 minutes they're given.  MF always liked to be relaxed and have fun.  Even in the Mike Douglas and Dinah Shore clips we've all seen, he clearly feels constrained by the time, while still trying to be himself.

I also agree with other folks that Mr. Carson wasn't particularly interested in Maynard's style.  I also think that kmamf has written some useful thoughts.  Other knowledgeable folks have also made useful and even important contributions to this topic, and I'm remiss in not noting them.

I can't agree that Mr. Carson didn't have MF on because of any sort of conflict with upstaging Doc.  That is just silly and pure speculation.

I apologize for any posts that I've not referenced, especially from people who are knowledgeable in this topic ...

The bottom line remains:  There are three daughters and a bunch of bandmembers, and Doc Severinsen and others, who are perfectly capable of relating the history of this topic.  So, ...

Y'all  know who you are.   Please, give us the real info.  There is history to record!
