I'm just trying to get some outside opinion on this...
I am 20 years old, and my girlfriend of almost four years and I are getting engaged (yes, we've talked about this extensively). We have one year of undergrad left and we are both planning on going to grad school right after that (we are in the same field).
I'm sure many people think we are too young, etc, but I've done a lot of soul searching, discussed it with our families, know we can handle this, and can't wait for the challenge! So, I won't be easily swayed on the age issue.
What I do want some advice on is should we wait until we have both completed grad school or go ahead and get married before grad school?
I see pros and cons to both:
Before: Not having to deal with a wedding while finding a job, moving, graduating, etc
Money from two people instead of one
I'm going to be poor by myself in grad school alone anyway, so why not with two?
Support system
Having a person you love help you get through school stress
However, no health insurance
not much rec. time with spouse
extremely tight budget
having to find a job in the same city at the same time
In grad school and surprise, a stork brings us a present
After: already graduated and hopefully have a job with benefits BUT have to plan and have wedding in there, too.
A year older and a year wiser (haha)
No homework
I'm sure I sound so young and clueless to everyone on the board, but it seems like most older people I talk to say that they were young and clueless at a time, too, and made it through somehow and are leading normal, happy lives. Any advice, criticisms, or personal anecdotes would be great. I'm open to hearing anything!
