I just got a flyer about a concert series here in town. The price is $90.00 for all 5 concerts, spread out from next Sept. - April, 2010. The venue is a very
upscale concert hall downtown. Here's the rundown:
1. A Dance Company from Ukraine. Not sure I'm up to starring (and I will and so would you) at a bunch of packages all night.
2. Slavayanka A Cappella Choir. I used to write horn charts for an a cappella choir. Never got paid.
3. A Piano Duo. I assume 2 piano players?
4. Hutchins Consort-A String Ensemble. Looks very cool.
5. Gene Krupa Orchestra & The Four Freshman. This show is on April 8, 2010. Wouldn't that make them The Four Sophomores by then?
Do you support live music?
1. When you go to a club, and your friends' band is playing, do you try to talk your way in or do you pay?
2. When's the last time you paid for a show?
3. How often would you say you pay for live music?
I'll go first:
1. I gladly pay at the door. And I make it a point to thank the owner or manager and tell them why I came. One of my pet peeves is a musician who compalins about the lack of "support" and who is the first to ask for a hook-up.
2. I went to see a jazz group last Sunday at the club where my big band plays. It's 8.00 at the door. Myself and 2 kids.
3. I believe I pay an average of once a month to see live music in a club or concert setting.
