For Sale: Scodwell B flat trumpet - #073 - Gold Plated - Nick Named “The Widow Maker”. Asking $2,200 + shipping, you choose your preference.
---------
This Scodwell trumpet was originally custom made for LV veteran lead trumpet player Tom DeLibero. Tony’s horns sell for $2,600 new, and gold plating is well over $2,000 these days, so this a great deal!
---------
The gold plating is intact except for one area on the second valve. Many years ago this horn had been stolen. The thief, before trying to pawn it, filed off the serial number, 073. After the original owner, Tom DeLibero, got the horn back Tony Scodwell put a brass patch over the area and stamped the serial number on it. This never effected the playability of the horn or the action of the second valve. Strictly a cosmetic thing.
---------
The acoustic projection of these horns is incredible, and they record VERY well. This particular horn can be heard on Doc Severinsen’s big band CD “Swingin’ The Blues”. Tom, on lead trumpet, played it during the recording sessions. I played this horn on several tours with the Maynard Ferguson BBN Band in 2006. Maynard him self played it a few times in his dressing room and agreed, it is an extremely fine trumpet. When I’m asked about the playing characteristics of the Scodwell I describe it as a cross between the best Bach and the best Calicchio I ever played, but better than either!
