Listening to some of the old movie soundtracks with Maynard today, and I was reminded of what a good LP the Dino soundtrack is when the jazz players hold sway. Gerald Fried wrote the music and he hired a bunch of heavyweights to record the score for this 1957 film starring Sal Mineo, including Maynard and Frank Rosolino to handle the jazz solo work. Maynard plays some really nice stuff on this album. His jazz chops are good, with some high note forays, but mostly just really good middle register to semi-high register jazz work. Check it out if you haven't listened in a while.
